I have driven less than 50km in Dirt Rally. Is this league noob friendly? Can I practice before having a go or is it a one chance thing?

Uh-huh should be a great one. I'm actually not bad with the Delta. Plus I did the weekly last week. And with the soft lock tip from Ceolmor, I'm unstoppable.

It is noob friendly, just try not to damage your car. You get a few shakedowns in the beginning but that's it.

There are shakedowns, 10 on the first stage I think. Just join in, doesn't matter much if you're winning or losing, and you'll get better soon. Don't mind the pace of Ceolmor, LRyder and Urlauber.. They have too many hours on the game

Its not a black magic, go faster trick.  I always use the degrees of steering that the car has IRL.  Both the 2001 Ford Focus and Impreza were 720° and the Lancia  Delta Integrale HF is also 720°.  S4b1n was using much less, possibly as low as 180°


As with Assetto Corsa, in DiRT Rally you can use Soft Lock so that the degrees of rotation of your physical wheel will match that in real life of the particular car you are driving.  I suspect you are doing that already, but for those that are not:

• Calibrate your wheel in DiRT Rally to 900º or more if your wheel allows.  The game max is 1080º.
  
• Put Soft Lock 'On' in the ADVANCED WHEEL OPTIONS page of OPTIONS & EXTRAS.
  

• Set soft lock to 100% in the FEEDBACK & VIBRATIONS page.
  

Beware there is a bug in DiRT Rally so that the animated steering wheel does not rotate 1:1 with your own wheel.  This is purely a visual thing.  It does not effect the steering.

All the DiRT Rally leagues are noob friendly.  You just get into your car, drive, try not to hit anything, and finish.  It is an old cliche, but in DiRT Rally you have to drive slower to go faster.  If you are driving on the edge all the time, there is a 99% chance you will crash.  

If you have the time, in CUSTOM you can recreate the rally with exactly the same stages, weather etc as the Cosy Rally for that week.  You can then practice in there as much as you like.  At the end of each stage you can even retry.  Then when you are ready you can do the Cosy League rally proper.   

As in the Cosy League you can quit after each stage and come back to the next stage later, you can even practice one stage in CUSTOM, do it in league and then repeat for the next.

When you choose the rally venue etc in CUSTOM you have the option of whose time you are competing against.  If you choose Personal Best, then at the end of each stage it will give you your time compared with your previous best so you can see if you are improving.  And if you have the progress hud on, you will get a green bar at the end of the sections you beat you previous sector times.

It helps to learn the stages, but this is no different to circuit racing where you need to learn the circuit.  Listen to the co-driver.  Even when you know the stage, he still helps to remind you what's coming up.  With more km in DiRT Rally you wlll also learn where his calls are wrong.  There are few 4s which are more like 2s or 3s.

I wasn't suggesting it was necessary to practice for hours.  Just answering S0ul01's questions about whether you could practice before doing the stage proper.  

I do the first stage of the rally offline first, to get the feeling of the car & surface and make sure everything is working, then straight into the rally proper.  But I do have the benefit of knowing the stages.

Holy crap if this isn't the most terrifying game I have played in a while. The last stage man... I decided to go in blind, which was a good idea. It might have scared me off otherwise and I would not have been able to memorise a 9 minute track anyway. But holy shit, was it fun and frustrating at the same time. I am gonna like this

Good god that was intense! I had a couple seconds lead going into the final stage but spun fairly early into it and had to do a several point turn to get facing the right way again. Drove like an absolute maniac taking maximum risk for the rest of the stage to try and make up for it, and in the end...lost by 0.452!!!

Congrats Ceolmor. I'm really relishing the competition!
