I'm getting to grips a bit more with the game. Now also trying to go through the career.

Switching to headphones, setting the audio to headphones and lowering everything but the co-driver has really helped..

Still probably somewhere at the back compared to you guys though

Do you guys setup the car? If yes then how and why?

Not much.

Most of the time I'm using a bit more rear bias on the brake for easier turn in (default brake bias is often heavily towards front, which makes the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scandinavian_flick">Scandinavian flick</a> nearly impossible).

Same goes for gearbox, I'm shortening it most of the time, because I won't go flat out anyway because I'm scared so fast that I don't need top speed anyway..

Seems pretty thorough, might even look into this more when I get more clean stages in..

I like how it calls the Alpine "for veterans". It's the first car I'm driving since last year in Dirt Rally that I actually like a lot..

Man I'd love to do some Dirt Rally, it's been ages. Last I tried it I had trouble getting it to work well with my Vive. Might be able to find some time towards the end of the week to see if I can get it working well.

As far as setups are concerned, I remember having a few fairly well developed setups for a couple of cars like the Imprezza '99 and Groub B RWD.

IIRC the differential settings were pretty useful for adjusting balance in AWD cars.

Gear ratios I hadn't really figured out. It seemed like if I used the typical circuit racing approach of making the top of 6th gear equal to the top speed you actually encounter, then I'd just be constantly going up and down the gearbox, and spending a lot of time in between gears. Guess it really depends on how fast the gearbox is, and how wide the power band is. Regardless, like Sven said, you're still likely to want shorter gear ratios than the default setting.

Oh this is so much fun! And the "no resets" rule makes it so much more intense as it is already! Only crashed once and got a 11 seconds penalty, next please!

Regarding brake bias, not really sure how it helps to flick the car. I can usually do it without changing bias, it's one of the few things i don't alter. Other than that, I'd expect a more locked center and rear diff on Wales would work, as it is very slippery and as far as I am aware, one should powerslide quite a bit to get the most speed through corners.

I suck at Dirt now! Used to be decent . I last played it over a year ago.

Any pointers you two can offer for the next round?

I also last played about 1 year ago. For Germany? I just try not to slide too much. I treat it the same way as Assetto However I managed to spin once and to hit some stones on the inside of corners twice, and since i don't have handbrake I can't really take some hairpins or acute corners properly (meaning flicking). I just can't flick the car enough.

well, my special method is don't-fuck-up, better going a bit slower than hitting the woods

Mr_urlauber is right. The trick is to go slower to go faster.

Relax and go slower. You will then get into a rhythm and get a faster time.

I can't go slower in dirt rally. I need to get the satisfaction of nailing at least 1/3 of the corners. Doesn't matter if I completely screw up another 1/3
