I'm pretty close to giving up on the series and just resort to playing it whenever I really want to, which is likely not that much anyway since I can't really properly map a handbrake and H-shifting combined with that is nearly just too damn hard. Don't enjoy these cars neither and still hate the co-driver (with headphones it's even worse, and no, that's not due to my headphones).
can't you map the handbrake to the paddleshifters if you are using the H-shifter? You might have to assign them both to the same key in the driver and then assign that key to handbrake in the game.
I wouldn't get hung up on the handbrake. Using it really doesn't gain you masses of time. Its more important to (sven will hate this) learn the stages. I'm not talking meter by meter but more the hazard points in each stage. Since taking part in these events I've realised that just turning up and driving the stages isn't going to cut it. I need some idea of what to expect. Greece has some particularly nasty sections that need careful navigation. Going through stage four, as an example, fast and blind, will end is a crash. To have decent pace I need to practice. That's the bottom line.
I agree with Ned.....
The handbrake isn't essential. I rarely use it in most countries (Greece gets the most use) because unless you get it absolutely right you are likely to be faster without it.
On each stage there are one or two tricky bits where they try to catch you out, usually about 500 metres from the end!!! Learn them to get a cleaner, faster run.
And drive slower to go faster. Don't drive on the limit and on the edge of crashing at every bend.
-Stick with it Sven because it can be a great and rewarding sim.
I might just be looking for an excuse.. Never really got to grips with the game; the co-driver, the (lack of) connection to the car, the handbrake, the annoying bugs with the DNF's and getting totaled.
But on the other side, I think rally shouldn't be about "learning" a stage and you should be able to depend on the pace notes. The better I get at Dirt Rally, the more I'm starting to hate it.
